How beautiful your mantel turned out! I love the way the activities of the family flowed so well into space. It was very informative to see how the depth was achieved. Wow! That is a lot of wood to remove. Thank you for showing how you achieve it! It was a great video! Glad I had "nothing to do" I would have watched your video anyway Joe! Thanks for sharing.

It is strange how busy you can be when you retire! I have heard that so much and didn't believe but retirement is wonderful! Wish I could come to the reunion. Seems like I always miss it. I will be on the road home from New Mexico. Maybe next time. You all have fun!
Enjoy!
Merrilee

Fellow carvers,

I finished a walnut mantel for a customer who had me carve one 20 years
ago. He lost that mantel in a house fire so I carved him another. I shot a
video of the journey doing the mantel. If you got about a half hour with nothing
to do here's the link. http://thecarvingshop.shutterfly.com/82 (Also,
you can jump through it faster.)

I like this new Shutterfly site, so I'm slowly posting more stuff on it
(link below). And, I just finished a little order carving moldings, which I also
uploaded the video to Shutterfly. It seems hard to say no to carving jobs
after retirement.

Other stuff happening here, being between disasters for the Red Cross I'm
going to school for my CDL. That's to be able to drive semi's for the Red Cross.
I'm also getting ready for the GOW Reunion here at my shop June 20th through the
23rd. For those who don't know about it, the information is attached below. You
are all invited. We are honoring Ol' Don Burgdorf with a Roast for his many
years promoting the art of woodcarving.

Other stuff.. I am part of a team of 4, teaching carving to wounded
veterans in Jackson Hole Wy., for a week in October. If any of you know any
wounded veterans wanting to learn carving please have them call me. We are
covering their air fare, room and board and excursions such has Yellowstone and
river floats etc. The purpose of this week is to help them heal using carving as
one of the tools.
