Hi Merrilee,
I have a walking stick that has the end you were asking about, it has a metal point for outdoor trails, etc,,then you put a cap on it which has a rubber pad. I bought mine at Lee Valley in Canada, but have seen these in woodcraft store, also.

Good luck on your hunt.

Hi Merrilee,
I had the same problem several years ago.

Try a True Value hardware store.  That is where I found a rubber pad that screws directly to the bottom of the stick with one screw in the center.
They are for table legs, but they work.

Good evening all!
I have a question concerning walking sticks and canes. I am making one for a friend and need to put something on the bottom for walking stability. Unfortunately the stick is wider at the bottom (1 3/4") then narrows up. I think I remember someone saying there was a type that could be used for outside with a point and then covered up for walking inside. Does anyone remember this? Of what do you recommend for the ends to make them easier to walk with?  Thank you for you information!
Merrilee
