I would reply to the story about the Social Studies teacher and her removing the
desks from her room ... I thought ... and have made my decision

several levels. </span><span class="031131513-08072008">As US citizens we do
not 'enjoy the privilege' of an education. Education in the US is a
mandatory requirement by both the States and Federal government that is made on
any and all citizens up to the age of 18 (this varies some between states) if
that citizen is capable both physically and mentally to learn. Our
mandatory education system was created by law, governed by law and
non-compliance can be punished by law. </span></div>

<div><span class="031131513-08072008">The term mandatory means that it is ordered
by a higher authority, obligatory and demanded. </span><span class="031131513-08072008">Therefore each and every able bodied citizen must
attend an educational system so therefore education can not be a
privilege. A privilege is something that is given to a very few above and
beyond what the commoner could obtain. A privilege can be awarded because
of above average achievement, above average social status or above average
financial status. Something can not be a privilege when it is given to
everyone within the larger group.</span></div>

<div><span class="031131513-08072008">You can not 'earn' a mandatory requirement
... you fulfill it ... you complete it ... but you simply can not earn it!
Nor can anyone else fulfill your citizen's requirement or earn it for you. To
earn something is to have completed an action that is rewarded by another
action, an item or financial compensation. With our mandatory educational
system there is no action or prior requirement that must be met that is then
rewarded with the action of education.</span></div>

<div><span class="031131513-08072008">So when the Social Studies teacher asked the
question, "What have you done to earn the right (privilege) to a desk
(education)?" she set her students up for a double failure. She posed her
question under two false assumptions ... that an education is a privilege and
that privilege that must/can be earned. </span></div>

<div><span class="031131513-08072008">She further compounded her error by stating
that the Veteran's had earned the desks (education) for the students. This
also is false. The Veteran's protected, with their own lives and with
their energies and with their soul, the citizens and t he laws of our
government. </span><span class="031131513-08072008">The Veteran's protected
the laws of the US government that require of her citizens that they acquire an
education!</span></div>

<div><span class="031131513-08072008">Now before any one screams that I am not
patriotic ... whoa! Those Veteran's did their job wonderfully, well and with
courage in protecting our nation, our laws and our citizens.</span></div>

<div><span class="031131513-08072008">What I am against is a Social Studies
teacher asking false, unanswerable questions based on false assumption and
therefore teaching a thrice false lesson.</span></div>
