Hey, ED, if you get that info on the melaleuca off list be sure and share it!!! We 60 pluses gotta "stick" together. LOL<br>I'm also interested in the bench info. My set up works pretty well but I'm always up for improvements if I can make them. <br>
I've a friend in the Florida pan handle who is going to be sending me some FL wood (I sent her cedar last year). If the melaleuca is good then maybe I can send her additional $$ for postage and she can include some of that!<br>
Love trying new woods although I do specialize in cedar (and hickory root when I can get it).<br>Casey (shemale)<br><br><div class="gmail_quote"><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="border-left: 1px solid rgb(204, 204, 204); margin: 0pt 0pt 0pt 0.8ex; padding-left: 1ex;">

<div>Hello All,</div>
<div> I've been away from carving and this list for a while but
circumstances change and I now have the time and the room to get back to
carving. I sure did miss it. Anyway, I've just lost my job and will need to try
and earn a little supplemental income. The job market is bleak, especially
for a 62 year old guy. Seems they don't want us older guys anymore. I'm
seriously considering taking an early retirement and will definitely need to
pick up some spending money. I have several outlets for carved sticks and also
have a large supply of sticks. So, I have decided to go the "stick route" to see
what I can drum up.</div>
<div> A while back a stick carver had put out some plans for a stick
carving bench. I lost the plan and have not been able to find it anywhere. It
was very simple and was basically a home made vice type holding device </div>
<div>made from some 2 x 6's and some basic hardware that was attached to a work
bench. I just can't remember how it was built. If anyone has plans or
ideas on such a device please let me know.</div>
<div> I would also like to know if anyone out there has any info on the
wood from the Australian maleluca tree. I live in southwest Florida (Naples
area) and there are literally millions of these maleluca trees in the area.
They are an invasive species and the state is trying to eradicate them. The
supply of them is basically endless and I'd like to start carving them. I just
don't know what kind of longevity can be had from them. If anyone knows
anything about this wood please let me know. Thanks and glad to be back in the
carving scene.</div>
