Sorry I have not answered you sooner, but I see some others
have given you good advice. On thing I use and you might try it if you
like. When putting a finish on a carving, I use 1/2 Danish Oil, and 1/2
Birchwood Casey Tru Oil gun stock finish. It can be bought at sport goods
stores, gun shops and some Walmarts have it. Small bottle and costs about
$4.00 It is as it says, used for putting a finish on gun stocks.
Gives them a nice shine and when mixed with Danish Oil accomplishes the finish
and the shine all in one. I use it on carvings all the time. I am
sure you would find it works also with Tung Oil. If left for some
time though the Gun Stock Finish in the bottle will gel up in the bottle top
layer. It is still good below the top skim.

ques.?

I carved a stylized roadrunner out of redwood. I have put 5
coats of tong oil and sanded after each coat with 600 grit paper. I can't seem
to get a luster or shine on it. After the last coat I hand buffed it and still
no deep luster or shine. This is the 1st time i've used tung oil. What am i
doing wrong or am I expecting to much.
thanks for the help
Charley
