Please publicize that this Duany thing is not a presentation of a selected
plan.  This is a proposal that if a developer comes in with money in hand
and requests the assistance of the council to facilitate it happening will
we be poised to do so.
 
There are several groups vying for a redevelopment plan for the village
square area and beyond-  it basically comes down to the reality of alot of
fluff and no financial push to make it happen.
 
The first developer that shows up with the means to actually do something is
going to have a decided edge, presuming the proposal meets the needs of the
parish.
 
People should be prepared just like before to be dazzled with great concepts
by the Duany group, but should come prepared to inquire about who and how
will this become a reality.  This is not the only plan or proposal on the
table.  For the 250,000 that this plan cost the LRA it should have been
complete with a plan of funding and a map of how to access it.
 
The St. bernard Parish Housing and Quality of Life Commission has been
meeting (next meeting is at 11:00 a.m. 11/9/06) and will continue to
consider the several proposals and optins for this area and others and
discuss the reality of the funding mechanisms for comopleting such a
project.
