In general, Apple seems to prefer BSD-licensed tools to GPL-licensed
tools. For example, they replaced `wget` with `curl` at some point.
I think 10.0 shippd with `wget`, and 10.1 replaced it with `curl`.

None of Apple's apps or tools contains GPL licensed software, the
but the system as a whole contains numerous GPL-licensed tools.

Oh, and the Chess game is based on GNU Chess...
