Hello everyone,
It has been some time since the last Markdown version, and it also has
been some time since I implemented many things that were discussed on
this list.
Today, I decided I would release my experiments as a regular
markdown.php file usable by anyone, something I haven't done yet. I
called it PHP Markdown Extra, because, obviously, it adds extra
features on the top of the Markdown syntax. What features exactly?
* Smarter inline HTML block parsing.
* Markdown allowed inside HTML blocks (with the `markdown="1"`
attribute).
* Tables
* Definition Lists
* Underscore emphasis that only work for whole words.
Detailed description of the extras can be found here:
<http://www.michelf.com/projects/php-markdown/extra/>
My hope is that one day these features will become part of Markdown,
the syntax. Until then, I will continue to update both versions
separately to the benefit of those interested (PHP Markdown and PHP
Markdown Extra).
This is a semi-private release, only published on this list for now.
Later this week I plan to announce it more publicly on my website. Here
is the direct download link:

You can also try it on the dingus with this special dingus address
where all released versions of PHP Markdown are available (make sure to
select "MD extra 1.0b1" as the filter):
