Steve Holeczi & I went up Mt. Huber today. Due to the cloud cover & rain last night the freeze was not so great, but enough that we had to wear crampons. We were thankful for an old track to minimize postholing on the ascent and descent. We looked at the snow part way up the summit arete and found the snow depth to be about 70 cm with a 2cm thick ice crust 40 cm down. Snow above and below the crust was moist. It was all capped by a 5 cm thick crust that became more supportive the higher we got. Cloud cover kept things cool enough in the mourning and no new avalanches were observed.
