[MCR] Selkirk Mountain snowpack

Public Mountain Conditions Report mcr at informalex.org

It is snowing ever so lightly this morning in Revelstoke, so I wanted to
update everyone on what things looked like before the snow began.

I have been trapped in the class room teaching so no direct observations but
I have had numerous reports from others, ranging from the Monashees (north
of the Trans Canada highway), McCrae Peak (Selkirks South of Revelstoke)
Sail Mtn (Selkirks just North of Revelstoke), all of which have noted
significant surface hoar formation.

Given the depth of snowpack out there I suggest this could become a layer of
concern once buried deep enough - this would include Alpine and any smooth
Treeline features(meaning the terrain you would want to ski!).

I know this isn't particularly specific information but I wanted to give
everyone a heads since it will not be so obvious now that it is buried -
time to put the thinking caps on as this is not a typical situation in our
early season snowpacks.

Cheers,

Scott Davis
