[MCR] Surface Hoar and Suncrust-Banff Park-Gibbons Pass

[Public Mountain Conditions Report]

Sunday Evening Feb. 19th at Gibbons Pass below Storm Mountain between  
Twin Lakes and Redearth Creek in Banff Nat'l Park

Snowpack is around 150-175 cm deep at treeline (2300m)

Valentine surface hoar, suncrust, facets buried under 40cm of light,  
but not too light snow. Most of this new snow fell at around -5 to -10  
degrees with not too much wind.  Yesterday at treeline in the evening  
the winds picked up and were building a slab. New cornices had formed  
and the wind was still blowing this morning under clear skies. Little  
natural avalanche activity yet and I wasn't trying any ski cutting  
with the Chariot in tow so no report there.

That is one ugly beast of a layer buried out there. Here is a photo of  
the surface hoar that is buried-at treeline on a north aspect in  
Gibbons Pass. 20 meters to the left this layer was a suncrust-tricky  
for sure.
