[MCR] Closure of Stanley Glacier Trail-Head and Bridge-Dec 4

What's Happening?
Construction work on the Stanley Glacier Pedestrian Bridge is scheduled to
start on DECEMBER 4, 2012, with a tentative completion date on or about
December 20, 2011. The work will be carried out during daylight hours seven
days a week.

The Stanley Glacier Bridge is approximately 50 meters from the Stanley
Glacier Trailhad Parking Area, about 4 kilometres from the Alberta border
on Hwy 93 South in Kootenay National Park in British Columbia.

The Stanley Glacier bridge, trailhead to the bridge and the parking area
will be closedto all visitors during the construction period.

Why is this being done?
Rip rap work on the east side of the river bank next to the bridge will
improve visitor safety. By placing rip rap rocks on the east bank and next
to the bridge abutment, we will reduce erosion of the bank and protect the
bridge foundations.

How will this impact me?
The closure will impact visitors trying to access the tail to Stanley
Glacier.

Parks Canada appreciates the public’s patience while this work is being
completed. Short-term closures now will improve visitor experience over the
long-term in the Paint Pots area and enhance visitor safety.
