[MCR] Jasper Eastern Slopes Update - October 5, 6, 2013

This is a tiny bit dated but still some relevant information. While you are
waiting for the serious alpine routes, waterfalls and ski routes to come
into condition here is some info on the Eastern slopes which may offer some
rock climbing on a sunny day for the hardy soles who didn't get enough rock
this summer. The most recent set of flurries may have changed some of this
information.

Spent the weekend in the Eastern Slopes of Jasper Park at Hidden Valley.
Most of the snow was evident at treeline and above along the main ranges.
Limited visibility makes it hard to say what had transpired up high but a
few things I can say with reasonable certainty.

Mt Edith Cavell - definitely now looking like winter up there. The E ridge
is out unless you want full on winter conditions.

Meisner's Ridge (CR3) - snow from above treeline meaning that all of the
rock climbing would be in snow. Not really recommended.

Mt Colin - snow from above treeline meaning that all of the rock climbing
would be in snow. Not really recommended.

Mt Hawk - if you want a winter adventure you may still be able to pull off
the scrambles route but you should fully expect winter mountaineering rather
than summer scrambling. Go fully prepared.

Mt Morro - no snow on the SW face routes. Pick a sunny day and you may still
be able get some summer rock climbing in. Morro Slabs and Morro Bluffs were
totally dry of course.

CR5A (Rabbit Ears) - the snow was just above the summit and this could be
doable by a strong experienced party if the forecast offered you a good day.

Farther East:
It seems that the snow didn't get much past Roche de Smet and Cinquefoil on
the weekend. Areas like Roche Ronde, Bedson Ridge and Ogre Canyon were still
totally dry. Miette had very limited patches of snow on the scrambles route
(this may have changed now). Roche a Perdrix had no snow evident from the
highway. Hidden Valley and Juno Wall were totally dry but windy as usual.

Maybe some of the locals can provide an update after the most recent
flurries.
