Yesterday, Sept 10th, I guided an attempt on the North Bowl of Mt Andromeda. We originally planned to try the Middle Earth Gully (know as the Middle Snow and Ice Practice Gully in the past) but some current information and pictures from a fellow guide showed Middle Earth to be really boney with a complicated bergshrund. We changed objectives.
A good freeze on the night of the 9th yielded great conditions. Gaining the North Bowl Glacier went well for us right up against the rock of Andromeda. The glacier involves some threading the needle and crossing from the near to the far side. We had several volleys of small rockfall skip out onto the glacier once the sun came up. There is a bridge over the last large transverse crevasse approximately at it's centre.
My guest felt ill at the bergshrund, possibly from the altitude, so we retreated from there.
Happy trails,
