[MCR] Four person hiking recommendation in the Illecillewaet and Asulkan Drainages

Hi Everyone,

Further to Chris Gooliaff's post several days ago, I am passing along the
following message on behalf of the External Relations Department of Parks
Canada for the Roger's Pass area of Glacier National Park to the mountain
community who may be considering hiking or climbing trips into the Asulkan
or Illecillewaet valleys.  Please understand that this is a voluntary
*recommendation* and not *travel restriction* (mandatory group of 4
traveling together), yet:

"Please note that* MRG is recommending that visitors hike in groups of four
when on the trails in the Illecillewaet and Asulkan valleys in Glacier
National Park.*

There has been an increase in bear activity during the past two weeks.
Visitors and staff have seen a female grizzly with 2 cubs frequenting the
Illecillewaet and Asulkan valleys.

   -

Parks Canada is asking visitors to make noise and hike in tight groups of
four for visitor and bear safety. This is a voluntary recommendation and
the area will be monitored and patrolled by parks staff.

Visitors will receive bear safety information at the RPDC, in the
campgrounds and at the trail head with the request to report bear sightings
to Jasper Dispatch 1-877-852-3100.

Should the recommendation be removed or upgraded to a restriction we will
let you know. "
