[MCR] Large Avalanche Reports

[Public Mountain Conditions Report]

Avalanche Canada has received field reports of large avalanches on
Saturday. Primary regions of concern are the South Coast, North Columbia,
and North Rockies but the problem likely extends further through the
mountains of interior BC. Communications with avalanche professionals today
highlight a sense of tricky conditions and lack of "obvious clues". This
situation is directly related to storm snow loading and past warming
changing the upper snowpack. Although a cooling trend has begun, we expect
more time is required for the snowpack to strengthen. Lingering problems
and slope-to-slope variability suggest a conservative approach to terrain
selection and holding back from steep slopes and overhead hazard remains
the preferred approach for now.
