I have good news!  The best source in the state for the  information you seek 
about 19th century railroading around Petersburg is right  there in 
Petersburg!  Call the Petersburg National Battlefield Park and ask  for historian Jimmy 
Blankinship. He is a very respected 19th century rail  historian!
