Re' Young Whippersnappers

When I first went to Roanoke out of college back in the dark ages, I lived in an apartment out on the sout' side where lived a retired N&W clerk.  When he was in his cups, he'd bitterly refer to folks like me as "little p**swillies".

What the heck . . .  Good as any . . .

      OK, so if most of us are to be considered "young whippersnappers" and if a vintage seagoing sailor is respectfully referred to as an "old salt", what is the proper term of endearment for an old steam railroader?
