intermodal on N&W/SOU passenger trains

Marty: The Powhatan ARROW did haul high cube cars eastward on the ARROW in
the early 1960's from Cincinnati to Norfolk. The shipments were auto parts.
The cars were tagged on to the end of the trainset. The high cubes were the
50 footers.
Some time ago we did discuss this on the mailing list.

The Southern FlexiVans only lasted about two years before they were sold off
to the NYC. There is a partial picture of one in one of the recent books on
the Southern. I'll try to dig it out tonight, which is how Walthers found
out about them, by having that book.

I know that Southern sometimes placed intermodal equipment on the rear of
it's passenger trains, particularly in the 1960's. Was this practice ever
used on the joint N&W/Southern passenger trains?
