Louis,
I was not aware that 9 and 10 ran between Roanoke and Monroe. Do you recall about what year they ceased to do so. I do recall from old timetables that a mail train with the triple digit number was shown on the Southern timetable (around 1950, I believe). Was this the same as 9 and 10 on the N&W?

After the 611, 612 and 613 were built in 1950, Class J locomotives were used
on local trains 9 and 10 between Monroe, Roanoke and Bristol, as well as
mainline locals 23 and 24 between Roanoke and Williamson.
