NOT ENOUGH CARS TO HANDLE EXPRESS
------
Liquor Shipments Unusually Heavy And Blood and Thunder Stories May be Expected
The Norfolk and Western has already been forced to put on an extra section of trains Nos. 5, 6, and 16 so that the holiday express may be handled with dispatch and at the same time not interfere with the regular running time of the passenger trains. There are not enough express cars on the road to move the business offered this year and freight cars have been pressed into service to haul the express packages. Yesterday, on the Clinch Valley four box cars were needed to carry the express shipments and from the liquor shipments alone it is estimated that the express companies derived a revenue considerably in excess of $350. This is doing pretty well when it is taken into consideration that Christmas is four days off. Express packages containing liquor are busily shipped out of this city, Keystone, Williamson, Northfork, Iaeger and other points along the road and at the present rate of hustling out the stuff, if it is all drunk in this section, there is a likelihood that the public will have some blood and thunder stories for consideration when the papers get around Tuesday.
