I have a friend who was an engineer for the Cotton Belt when UP took them  
over. I asked him what he thought about UP and he said , you can find UP in  
stUPid.

I had read somewhere that they were dropping the slogan because  of the 
mess that they made when they absorbed the Southern Pacific, from a  rail 
disaster in San  Bernardino to an inept ability to get shipments to  customers.  
The following few years were racked with all sorts of  problems on several 
fronts and it was because of this that the slogan was  dropped.  Nothing 
changes a company's mind quicker than failure in a big  way!!!
