611 and Kinney Connection

 This past Saturday while waiting for 611 to arrive at Kinney in Lynchburg,
VA, where it would take on water and board passengers for Roanoke, several
of us speculated where the SOU and N&W track limits were between Montview
wye on the SOU and Kinney wye on the N&W in pre-NS days.

The attached excerpt from a Jan. 1, 1982, N&W track diagram shows that the
demarcation was south of the Rt. 29A and 460 underpass, or ca. Lat 37 22 32
N and Lon 79 10 19 W on Google Earth.  On both the track chart and Google
Earth an N&W siding can be seen extending beyond the demarcation and around
the south (compass direction) leg of the wye at Montview to reach some
industries.  The track seen in Google Earth extending around the north leg
of the wye at Montview, apparently to serve other industries, appears to
have been installed after the date of the track chart.
