Your account of why the un-scheduled stop clears up that which was a
mystery to me at the time. Thanks.

I attach additional images (scanned from 35 mm color negatives) to re-live
that extra-ordinary day.

The last shots are near Ft. Blackmore and show how close folks got to the
moving train. A personal story here: After the scramble to pick up what
Santa had tossed, one little boy came up empty handed. The look on his face
broke your heart. I reached into my pocket and handed him a dollar bill. It
helped his experience.

(I checked just now --- Joe Garagiola is still with us at age 89.)
