Jimmy

Thanks very much . I think I got most of it figured out today Buds answer was great info on dates and when the Modifications took place which was my main question. Then I got hung up on what physically changed from the original Alco design. What I came up with was they did away the original HP exhaust valve in the front of the saddle and removed the cast wall inside the saddle where it seated. Then did away with the unbalancing valve and made that partition the seat for the new exhaust valve which was on a common shaft with the intercepting valve now Positively controlled by the engineer in the cab. Then added the external reducing

Valve (HP steam to the LP receiver) which you can manipulate from the cab so called booster valve

Bud and ED and Dave does this sound correct

Thanks again

Larry,

If I remember the drawings correctly, the intercepting valve was moved outside along with the reducing valve. The saddle was then gutted. The reducing valve was not the problem. It didn't move.

It was the intercepting valve that did move and required lubrication that was the culprit. Maybe, this whole thing is a bit of a misnomer.

Larry,
Now that I found my drawings, I see that I was wrong and the intercepting valve was left in the saddle and in a much simpler manner.
