Notation from 1955 and 1957 N&W timetables: "Durham District trains 71 and 72 operate between Lynchburg 12th Street Station and Durham (Duke Yard). Passengers, if any, will be handled between Durham Freight Station and Duke (Yard)....by taxicab."

  Did the Norfolk and Western  passenger trains use the Union station in central Durham or was there another station? 




  Jim:
  N&W passenger trains used Union Station until 10/10/1955.
  After that, mixed trains Nos. 71-72 originated/terminated
  at Duke Yard.  Before that date, passenger traffic for downtown
  Durham was handled on the Duke Belt Line to a junction near
  West Main Street,  then it was about 2/10ths of a mile to the
