Mike,
Probably the most descriptive coverage of N&W's truck philosophy is in Andrew Dow's N&W Coal Car book. There is an entire chapter  covering this subject.

Subject: Freight trucks
Please educate me on another aspect of the N&W.  I am seeing references to drawings for T41, T46 etc.
Did the N&W cast their own freight trucks?  Design their own freight trucks?
I see some drawings have Buckeye Castings listed.  I see Barber S2 on TopGons.
Did they not use Andrews, or Barber, or other manufacturers or did they just have drawings of these for repair etc.
Is there an Arrow article I can read?
