There is a new documentary out on DVD called Tom Dowd and The Language of
the Music.  A 90 minute retrospective of Dowd's work with some of the
greatest artists such as Eric Clapton, Derek & The Dominoes, Ray Charles,
Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonius
Monk, Cream, Rod Stewart, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers Band,.  Check

Saturday night I went to see the movie Ray about the life of Ray Charles.
Great Movie.  During the Atlantic recording sessions Dowd is portrayed in
the film, as one of the pioneer of 8 track recordings.
