The link provided here the other day to Steve Winwood's web page containing
his revelation that Eric had played on some forthcoming material adds
another interesting link to Eric's past.
The latest Where's Eric! magazine contains a great retrospective article by
Andy Zwick covering the 2004 tour. Andy states: "Like all of Clapton's best
work, the 2004 tour marks a fresh chapter in his legacy. The tour, in many
ways, reveals a newfound comfort with his history." This is certainly borne
out by Eric's willingness to perform with many of his former bandmates
again, something he has generally avoided in the past. No doubt this will
not be a recurring practice as Clapton likes to complete a project and then
move on.
In 2000 he performed with Bobby Whitlock (about as close to a Dominos
reformation as is now possible). In 2003 he played the Mayall 70th Birthday
show. Next year the Cream reunion. A Winwood session effectively covers
Blind Faith. He's recorded with Rod Stewart with whom he had apparently
fallen out years ago. All that's left now is the Yardbirds. What odds Eric
will ring Paul Samwell-Smith and throw his hat into the ring? (and I'm
kidding at this point......!).

Cheers,
Jon
