[Slowhand] Nathan / Steve Jordan / Willie Weeks

I doubt that Steve Jordan "forced" Nathan out to get Willie Weeks in. Eric has spoken about Willie Weeks before and this quote is from Sept. 4, 2005:
"Musically, Nathan is in the Top 3 as a bassist," said Clapton, who named Willie Weeks and Stevie Wonder band veteran Nathan Watts as the other two.
I think it is safe to say that Eric wanted Willie in the band.

I was able to speak to Nathan a month or so ago. He said that on at least a couple of occasions, Eric had invited him to be a part of the 2006 tour. He was also interested in working with Steve Jordan. Steve agreed to be a part of the band, but said that he came as a "package deal" with his bass player, Willie Weeks. Eric agreed to this and apologetically uninvited Nathan.
The fact that Steve Jordan just finished playing in the John Mayer Trio without Willie Weeks seems contradictory. But there are possible explanations. Maybe Steve Jordan missed playing with Willie Weeks after playing with someone else?
As usual, Nathan put a positive spin on this. His twins turn six soon and he is looking forward to spending more time with them.
I suspect we'll see Nathan with EC again. The two remain on good terms and continued to work together on the J.J. Cale album after the "split."
And finally, some of my own thoughts: It seems to me that Nathan, or anyone in the band, is limited in what they play by Eric himself. For example, "Change The World" from Yokoham, November 24, 1999, features absolutely delicious interplay between Eric and Nathan. Two years later, the song was reworked and became bland by comparison. Nathan didn't forget how to play the song. Eric wanted to do something different and Eric is the boss.
