Hi there

I've just returned home from watching EC in Manchester UK. What a great
night!

Yes, there were many of the "old favourites" but for me they still sounded
fresh because of the band. Being a relative new devotee to Clapton's music
it was great to hear so many of his back catalogue for the very first time
and some superb arrangements. In parts there were almost medleys with the
briefest of pauses prior to launching into another song. It worked well for
me and kept the pace moving well.

For those of you yet to see a concertin this tour, you're in for a treat. In
many ways, the highlights for me after Eric's solos was the amazing guitar
work of Derek Trucks. Gees, this guy can play! I was absolutely spellbound
watching him on the big screen.

Overall, the band were superb although I thought the sound engineer got it
wrong. Robert Cray opened the night with a good 45 minute set. Sadly I
didn't know any of his songs and was disappointed that they didn't do much
for me. Again I think the sound played a part as the vocal was too low in
the mix from where I was sat (ticket arranged via EC Access and certainly
not the best in the venue). It's testament to Robert that the stadium was
almost full for his set. How many opening acts can you say that about.

The sound was better for EC but overall the lead vocal was drowned by the
music.

Overall, a great concert. A very mixed bag and one that I enjoyed
tremedously. I'm off to RAH next week to see EC again. Hope to see some of
you then.

By the way, for anyone interested in gear, EC seemed to be using the same
amp set up he used at RAH for Cream. His main guitar was a pewter coloured
strat although he used two black strats too, his usual Martin and the black
Martin.

Best wishes

Paul
