Again, I will disagree. When he played a solo, it was normally quite good. Unfortunately, EC didn't really record very much with the Yardbirds. But on those 4 Yardbirds and 2 Otis Spann tracks, he sounds QUITE focused. Nobody before ever played like that, with that overdriven, sustained tone. Previous to Clapton, electric guitar was pretty much just acoustic guitar, only louder. Clapton turned the electric guitar into another instrument. He gave it its voice.
