The bass player who filled in with the Bluesbreakers, after Jack Bruce
quit the band and before John McVie rejoined on or about 2 December
1965, was John Bradley. I can’t imagine Mayall and his band taking some
3+ weeks off, just before Christmas, so my guess is that we just don’t
know what gigs occurred during the 28 November - 23 December 1965
period.
When it comes to “Beano” mono vs. stereo, I too prefer stereo, although
I get a kick out listening to the mono version every now and then.
There’s simply more to hear on the stereo version. Mayall’s Hammond
organ, for example, on “Hideaway” is nearly obscured in mono, but shows
up quite well in stereo. During a live performance, one would also hear
more than the mono version presents, especially back then in 1966,
before decent theater sound systems were developed. A true stereo --
not electronically rechanneled for stereo -- version of “Beano” was
available in the US in very early 1967, but not made available in the
UK until December 1969.
