[Slowhand] Best Buy

Nice message David. Brought me back to the days I used to shop at Argus
Tapes & Records back home in Wichita. Right next door was a great stereo
shop where I bought my first Onkyo amplifier and Cerwin Vega loudspeakers.
And right next to that was the local head shop. Those were, indeed, the
days!

There is a small record (yes, vinyl, albums, the REAL thing) shop not far
from my house that I wander into every once in awhile. The guy has been in
business for years and his supplier offered him the last bit of vinyl they
had in their warehouse which they were liquidating. Making room for CDs;
not selling the vinyl. He took his life's savings (convinced his spouse I'm
told) and bought everything they had.

Every few months, he breaks out another box. Has some great old Stones,
Frampton, even had a Clapton (Journeyman) which I promptly purchased.
Unopened. Even has a small section of smoking utensils for those so
inclined! The store is a treasure trove.

Jeff

Hi,
Just a little something I feel compelled to say. Best Buy doesn't
need any help selling and destroying the music "business". Small
local retailers do. If you know a nice CD store that you shop at.
Let's hear about it. Things are pretty bleak for these folks. I
understand perfectly that price is important. Believe me but but
maybe your local guy can match it. I have very fond memories of
shopping for records as a teenager. Man, those were the days. Some of
those music geeks that turned you on to the new Derek and the
Dominoes album or Hendrix In the West. These guys were the heart and
soul of music retailing. Look I'm not stupid. Money is important but
I resent places like Starbucks overcharging for CD's and then when it
suits them, when the other CD retailers start vanishing they decide
that the CD business isn't for them so they liquidate the CD's and
move on. Maybe I'm a bit of a sentimentalist. I don't know. Music in
my day was all about the love and passion for music. From the artist
right down to the store geek. A musician wouldn't think about a
different life. They were basically unable to do anything else. Some
of them were stone ugly so the video age wasn't kind to them. It
wasn't a career move like a rich kid that became a recording artist
because his father owned a modeling agency and had the right
connections. This whole thing is broken because the passion, love and
artistry is gone. It's not over yet and we can fix it. Support local
music shops, don't download illegally, go to local shows with unknown
"musicians" Get off your ass and do the right thing.
much love,
David
