[Slowhand] Paul on Jimi and that damn out of tune guitar

On a recent flight from Washington DC to London, I had the pleasure of
reading: You Never Give Me Your Money: The Beatles After The Breakup By
Peter Doggett. In the book Peter Doggett sites a few examples of Paul
McCartney recalling events in entirely different ways and sometimes in
completely contradictory ways to previous stories he had told.

June 4, 1967 (Sun), Saville Theatre (2 shows), UK.

1) Sgt. Pepper

2) Foxy Lady

3) Like A Rolling Stone

4) Manic Depression

5) Hey Joe

6) Purple Haze

7) The Wind Cries Mary

8) Are You Experienced?

The Saville Theatre benefited from a capacity of 1,426 on three levels and a
stage that was 31.5 feet (9.6 m) wide, with a depth of 30.5 feet (9.3 m).
The interior was opulent.

The venue also saw the last UK appearance of The Jimi Hendrix Experience (in
June 1967) before their groundbreaking Monterey Pop Festival performance.
The Move and Procol Harum also appeared on the bill.

Perhaps some brave soul will venture forth to verify Sir Paul’s story.

After the Saville Theatre gig, Jimi nest gig was:

June 18, 1967 (Sun), Monterey Pop Festival, USA.

1) Killing Floor

2) Foxy Lady

3) Like A Rolling Stone

4) Rock Me Baby

5) Hey Joe

6) Can You See Me

7) The Wind Cries Mary

8) Purple Haze

9) Wild Thing

Note: Jimi played the same 5 songs at both gigs.

It is well know and documented that Jimi was sky high on LSD (then still
legal).

Not too bad a gig for someone, who it would seem to have trouble tuning his
guitar on stage.

I believe that it was Paul McCartney who recommended Jimi to John Phillips
for the festival.
