Wow!,

I'm amused at the unmitigated authority with which some wield their humble opinion.

It also amuses me observing many contradictions.

I hate nostalgia so I'll buy a 21 year old CD and give it heavy play at home and in the car.

LAOALS / 461 Ocean BLVD / Unplugged / Journeyman / Reptile also have "Song selection - all over the board"

And your point?

Eric grew up listening to these songs on English radio?

Blues songs on English radio?

Eric grew up listening to J.J. Cale's River Runs Deep and Everything Will Be Alright??

"Sorry that isn't how you select songs for an album"

How the fuck did Eric get by for the past 50 years without understanding album song selection?

"Leave this kind of stuff to Rod Stewart, who can pull it off"

So does that mean that Rod's song selection is okay but it's just that Eric hasn't the chops to do it properly?

So would this also mean that if Rod recorded "Clapton" it would be a good album because Rod can pull it off??

BTW, Have you listened to the Rod Stewart albums? Seriously have you? eccchhh!

Please don't misunderstand me here Bryan, I agree with this album being crap.

I just feel that your arguments are all over the place (a little like the song selection for this album) and lack any serious thought or understanding.

Not only do I hate this album like you do, but I hate everything Eric has done after "I Wish You Would" (have I mentioned this before on the Digest?)

You see, as far as I'm concerned I want Eric to repeat the very first single he played on, all the time. Year in year out.

I don't want the production to change, the singing to change, the style to change, the guitar to change, the phantom ring to change, the shoes to change, Armani to change.

I just want ol' Slowhand to stay the same cherubic 18 year old he was at the Crawdaddy.

Rather than quote Strother Martin it may be best to draw a parallel to understanding Eric with what a fellow Slowhander posted years ago regarding Dylan.

With Dylan, you either get it or you don't.

Likewise with Eric.

If you're looking for Live Cream Volume XII, Layla Meets Duane, Son Of Mighty Bluesbreakers, Nothing But The Blues for The Rest Of My Fernercking Life, you're always going to be disappointed.

Now have I stated that this is just my humble opinion and I'm just as full of shit as the next person?

Good.

Cheers

Tone

PS

I really like this album and have been playing it regularly for the last three weeks (I mean this bit)

PPS

Have I also explained in detail why Kenny G blows better sax than Coltrane?

PPPS

I can't play sax and know virtually nothing about the instrument but hey, let's not cloud this here discussion with relevance.
