[StBernard] critters

That's a good point about the rodents. We continue to have refrigerators
with food on the curbs for weeks and I don't understand why. DEQ and EPA are
concerned about our air quality, oil spills, and asbestos in houses that
could become air borne during house demolition. Yet I worry not only about
poisonous snakes, but also about rats that carry disease. I spoke at great
length with an representative from EPA who made many phone calls and was
finally able to get someone to come remove the contents from one
refrigerator on Corinne. It shouldn't be that hard even for EPA! One
answer I heard EPA was given was that the parish's contractor can't remove
refrigerators in the oil spill zone. Well, they removed majority of the ones
put on the curb since September, but not all. And if the food has to be
emptied first, where is the company that is to supposed to remove the food.

Craig, what is the best way to get food and then these refrigerators out of
our neighborhoods? EPA said I could hound the contractor ACTI that is in the
trailer next to the brown tent behind the govt. bldg. I can do that, but am
I barking up the wrong tree?

I wonder, after reading today's TP about the woes of the debris contractors,
if it's a case that when there were hundreds of white goods on the streets,
they could quickly gather a truckload, but now there are not as many, they
don't see it profitable to pick any of them up. Of course, what's plenty is
in the eye of the beholder. One is plenty enough if it's on your lawn.

Also, what is a good phone number for animal rescue to come get a homeless
beagle?
