FEMA-run Web site Offers Guidance on Flood Insurance

FEMA is encouraging Louisiana residents to visit the Web site of the
National Flood Insurance Program, www.floodsmart.gov
<http://www.floodsmart.gov/> , which allows users to enter their addresses
and see how likely their homes are to flood, find local agents that sell
flood insurance and estimate their flood insurance premiums.

The best time to buy flood insurance is now, before the next hurricane
season begins. There is a 30-day waiting period from the date of purchase,
so it's important for individuals to go online and get the facts about flood
insurance today.

Louisiana Wants College Students to "Return to Learn"

Qualified current, former and potential college students who were displaced
by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita can receive up to $1000 to enroll or
re-enroll in the Fall 2006 semester as an undergraduate at a Louisiana
college or university under the state's new "Rebuild Louisiana Student
Financial Assistance Program."

On April 13, the Louisiana Legislature approved $8.5 million of the $95
million allocated to Louisiana by the U.S. Department of Education for the
recove! ry of the state's colleges and universities directly impacted by
last year's two storms.

Under the program, any student enrolled in and displaced from one of
Louisiana's colleges or universities impacted by Hurricanes Katrina or Rita,
any displaced Louisiana resident who would like to enroll in college, or any
displaced Louisiana high school student set to graduate in 2006, can apply
for financial assistance to attend a participating Louisiana institution.
The applicant must qualify academically to enroll in his or her chosen
institution and meet other qualifications set forth in the program.
