[StBernard] Don't Tread On Me

Craig,

I appreciate that straight talk from you. I also appreciate that you all in
the decision making positions realize that concessions need to be made for
certain people's circumstances. This is all we ask. Straight and easy to
understand guidance as to what is expected of us and that ya'll are willing
to be reasonable. The government depending on the free gutting programs has
in turn caused us to rely on that also. But you are right that now we need
to start doing something about it and stop waiting for help. We are working
hard to do what we can for our properties and move them into compliance.
But if I may make a suggestion, it would stop a lot of confusion and
frustration if you guys would not tell us stuff that doesn't come to pass or
is just a pipe dream. If it is solid, tell us. If not keep working on it
until something more solid is accomplished and ready to be announced to the
public. We have been let down enough. This is not personal so please do
not take it that way. We are followers and just looking to our leaders for
answers. So sorry if I've been hard on you and the government. I know you
work hard 24/7 for us. I don't know many people that would want your job.
Thanks for the explaining all of that.

Laurie

>The leaders have the task to consider where this community is heading-

>to not set guidelines to move the recovery forward is negligent. While

>there are hardships for many- keep in mind that the motivation to

>respond is relative to the perceived payoff- Think of this- if we were

>offering a monetary bonus for doing what is each homeowner's

>responsibility, there would be a different level of compliance. This

>post will bring fire from

>some- but I and the other council members have been in this up to our

has.

>Our decisions will in many cases be unpopular and will be criticized by

>people who will have different opinions and the "right answers". This

>will not deter the task at hand to push this community forward- truth

>be told- we have waited too long to push this issue and have allowed

>too long of a wait and too much of a dependency on programs that will not

be the answer.

>Remember that these guidelines will also apply to the business

>establishments that have done nothing to this point.

>As far as green space issues- this issue is still misunderstood. There

>is not enough money to force people into buyouts and the reality of the

>LRA plan continues to fall short for what most people will need.

>Translation- if a person has not made the decision to demolish their

>home, the home must be cleaned.

>

>As far as the windows- there will be some flexibility with this issue-

>probably things like front windows being closed in with plexiglass or

>similar clear materials and rear windows may be allowed to boarded.

>While people choose to target the local governmental officials as
