Chalmette resident runs for state House

Former St. Bernard Parish Councilman Mike Bayham has announced he will seek
the 103rd District seat in the Louisiana House of Representatives.
The election is Oct. 20.
Bayham, 33, was on the Parish Council from 2001-2003.

Among his priorities, Bayham said he would lobby Congress to deauthorize and
finance the total closure of the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet, secure money
for optimal levee protection, push insurance reform and work to repeal the
Stelly Plan tax and other taxes that he says make Louisiana noncompetitive
in attracting new businesses.
Bayham, a Chalmette Republican, is a grant writer for St. Bernard Parish
government.
He pledged to hold town hall meetings throughout the district. Bayham is a
parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Chalmette and is
active with the St. Bernard Parish Friends of the Library.
The 103rd District includes Arabi, western Chalmette, parts of eastern New
Orleans and the rural communities in St. Bernard from Hopedale and Delacroix
to the east side of the Violet Canal. Incumbent Ken Odinet is barred by term
limits from seeking re-election.
