SLU Poll Show Jindal Could be Heading into Runoff

OVERALL POLL RESULTS:

JINDAL 46%
BOASSO 10%
GEORGES 9%
CAMPBELL 6%
UNDECIDED/WON'T SAY 29%
MARGIN OF ERROR: +/- 4%

A poll released by Southeastern Louisiana University Wednesday morning shows
Congressman Bobby Jindal could be heading into a runoff in the race of
Governor of Louisiana. The poll of 641 registered voters statewide shows
Jindal, a Republican, with 46% of the vote, Democrat Walter Boasso with 10%,
Independent candidate John Georges with 9%, and Democrat Foster Campbell
with 6%. 29% percent of those surveyed either said they were undecided or
declined to say who they planned to vote for, the university's poll said.
The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4%. With that margin of
error, Jindal could technically still have 50% of the vote, allowing him the
avoid a runoff. The poll was conducted O ctober 1-7.

The poll also indicated 45.7% of African American voters surveyed were
either undecided or refused to answer. Boasso was leading the pack among
black voters, with 21.5 percent compared to Jindal's 17.7%, Campbell's 8%,
and George's 7%.

The director of the poll is Kurt Corbello, an associate professor of
political science at SLU. "Bobby Jindal appears to benefit from slow
changes in Louisiana political culture that started over 40 years ago with
the issues and events that produced Republican growth throughout the South,"
Corbello said. "Those changes were perhaps enlivened by the catastrophic
storms Katrina and Rita."
