A security guard has pleaded guilty to twice planting fake pipe bombs at the
Kenner motel where he worked and calling in threats to the business.

Nicholas Schumaker, 25, of Chalmette admitted to his crimes Wednesday during
a hearing before U.S. District Judge Kurt Engelhardt, authorities said. He
faces as long as 10 years in prison and a fine of as much as $250,000,
although maximum sentences are rare for first offenders.

Sentencing is scheduled Sept. 9.

Authorities said Schumaker targeted the Travelodge Hotel at 2240 Veterans
Memorial Blvd. on Nov. 8 and Nov. 10.

The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S.
Attorney Greg Kennedy.
