2. How many of you are "self taught" (which could include using books,etc.)?.....self taught....inspired by Rick Butz on PBS....bought his book "How to Carve Wood".....joined Western Woodcarvers Association in Portland, Oregon (learned a lot from visiting carvers)....subscribed to Chip Chats (ive got a big collection of the CC from the 70's up) i even made a project index so i could refer to items i was carving--1980 to present (spent a few years making a photo reference of the 1990's).....have purchased many books of a wide range of subjects that i thot might interest me.....gave some to the clubs i belong too (Capitol Carvers/Salem, OR & Coastal Carvers/Lincoln City, OR)
3. How many of you started carving "late in life" (use your own discretion)?i retired at 64 in 1997.....took up carving and woodworking about 1992.....joined WWA in December of 1993 (was Secretary, Pres., and Librarian)....Capitol Carvers Librarian....Coastal Carvers (just chipin around) was made hostess cause i could make coffee they liked
