Started carving around 11-12 years old (about 1938). Didn't know anyone else
was carving so for years I muddled through on my own. In 1900 I discovered
the New England Woodcarvers at a Mall show (Wow, here were 50 other people who
were carving!) And I began to expand my horizon.
Can't say I am totally autodidactic. Early on I learned by doing, but
later books on woodcarving began to be available, and I was able to take seminars
from people like Harold Enlow, Desiree Hajny, Harley refsal, Franks Russell
and Peter Benson.
