I started carving after recovering from a couple of strokes in 2000, I was
sitting on my deck wondering what I could do with my life, after being told
I could never work again, and I took out my swiss army knife and whittled a
spoon in a scrap of mahogany, and I was hooked, I then searched the internet
for links and found Susan Irish's site. So off I went and bought four palm
tools by Walnut Hollow from a local craft store and followed Susans
instructions for carving the barn and silo. I had so much fun that I
downloaded her free patterns and bought some of her others. I then bought
some Henry Taylor palm tools and a bunch of Flexcuts and have been carving
ever since.

> 2. How many of you are "self taught" (which could include using
books,etc.)?

I am basically self taught, except for people with web sites like Susan,
(who was and is my biggest inspiration) and the good folks on this list who
have guided and improved my carving skills no end.

discretion)?

Well, I was 49 going on 22 when I had my strokes, and still stay young at
heart, and in my mind according to my girls. They always apologise to folks
for me by saying ignore him, he only has half a brain !!! - gotta beat them
thar girls me thinks.

There you go, my two cents worth.
Take care all.
Clive.
