While spending 3 months apart from my family while we were waiting to close
an escrow i went into a used book store in Palm Springs and picked up a half
dozen Western novels and thot I had "discovered " a new young writer by the
name of Louis L'mour. this was 1978. I later met him when he was a guest
speaker at a local University. He said at that time the greatest mistake was
letting some of his earliest works expire and go into the public domain
after 25 yrs. Apparently folks aware of this fact were going to reissue some
books and short stories. He was going to renew the ones that had not expired
and try to negotiate on the others. He had written over 100 novels and more
short stories plus several Hopalong Cassidy books under the name of Jim
Mayo, yet he was unaware of the laws covering his lifes work.
