Thanks for including me in your explanation...I've been 
carving woodspirits and other smallish items, and have been struggling to
figure out ways to hold them securely. Any advice is very welcome, even
if someone else asked the question first!

Every time someone here asks a question, loads of useful advice  follows.
I've started making up documents with the question/problem and the answers
cut and pasted all together. The folder of printouts is getting bigger and
bigger.....:)
