[Woodcarver] american mahogany

I sent a querie to the list last week about american mahogany but got no 
response.
Was that because like me nobody new anything about it.
I will try again

Hi List
Today I picked up a slab of timber 400mm x 80mm which he called American 
Mahogany. I have not heard of this timber before and wondered where it 
comes from and what it is like for carving. It does not look as fine 
grained as Honduras mahogany.
