Hi Peter,
I didn't answer your question because I was not familiar with the
term, "American Mahogany". From your description, it would seem
to be something I call "Poor Man's Mahogany" or Luan. This is
not a very good wood and I can't say I ever saw it in slab form.
They make Luan Plywood which is generally used for some cheap
plywood, the backs of plywood or for places which are not seen.
I don't know if this is what you have or not. I don't think it
is even a Mahogany.
