[Woodcarver] tool holder

Hi May Jo,

I stay away from any magnetic strips. That will magnetize your tools. As you
sharpen and remove metal particals those particals will cling to the cutting
edge of the tool. Those particals are hard to remove and they will distroy
your keen cutting edge in a very short time.

My bench top is small so I have no room to lay my tools out. I have a tool
holder that's off my bench with the tool handles upright and lower than the
bench top. This makes tool accessibility quick and keeps the tools out of
the way. It is very compact. I have seperate holes for each tool so they
don't hit together. I have 27 tools in a 2 1/4 by 12-inch holder. I use this
same holder to transport my tools. People think it is hard remembering which
tool is in what hole because the blades are hidden. Actually it is very easy
to quickly memorize the order of the tools with just a few hours of use. I
can quickly put the tool back in the same hole and quickly grab the next
tool without even looking for where it is. I also quickly know when a tool
is missing. I recommend this method for shows to keep the sharp edges away
from kids and adults.

You can see my bench and my tool holder by going to my Webshots album link
below. In the album titled Artistry in Wood 2003, you can see my bench on
wheels in photo titled Joe Dillett booth 1, but my tool holder is behind the
easel with the Carving Magazine display. You can get a better picture of the
tool holder in the Farm Bureau album in the second picture.
